Dr. Sorawit Powtongsook serves as a principal researcher at the Integrative Aquaculture Biotechnology Research Group, National Center for Genetic Engineering and Biotechnology, Thailand. He previously held the position of research group director for six years and currently leads the Shrimp Genetic Improvement Center. Dr. Sorawit possesses expertise in both algal biotechnology and environmental aquaculture, having authored more than 80 publications in international scientific journals. With over 25 years of experience in recirculating aquaculture system research, development, and technology transfer, his areas of specialization include nitrogen waste treatment through nitrification and denitrification processes as well as the design and implementation of recirculating aquaculture systems and algal photobioreactors.In response to advances in IoT and AI technologies, Dr. Sorawit is actively involved in several research projects and provides consultation to startup companies on applying these technologies to fish and shrimp aquaculture. His recent initiatives include the development of digital data collection tools for shrimp farmers, AI-based aquatic animal counting devices, and AI-controlled automatic shrimp feeders. Dr. Sorawit is dedicated to integrating advanced technologies into practical solutions for aquaculture farmers, ensuring a balance between usability and feasibility.
