Joji Morishita

Professor, Department of Marine Policy and Culture, Tokyo University of Marine Science and Technology 
Advisor to Minister of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries on International Fisheries Affairs, Japan
Dr. Morishita has been Involved in international ocean and fishery issues since 1982 as a representative of the Government of Japan, covering bilateral fishery access and trade negotiations with several countries, meetings of numerous RFMOs, multilateral fishery conferences of the UN (FAO, CBD, CITES, UN General Assembly Informal Consultations on sustainable fisheries resolution), and other international oceanic and environmental meetings.
He was Japan’s Commissioner to the International Whaling Commission (IWC) from 2013 to 2018 and served as IWC Chair from 2016 to 2018. He was also the Chair of the Scientific Committee of the North Pacific Fisheries Commission (NPFC) from 2015 to 2019. Dr. Morishita is currently Commissioner for the Conservation of Antarctic Marine Living Resources (CCAMLR).
Dr. Morishita holds a PhD (Agriculture) from Kyoto University, Master of Public Policy (MPP) from Harvard University, and BS in Fisheries Science from Kyoto University.
