Introduction

  • This course will give you to have a basic understanding of OHSAS 18001:2007 and how to apply it within an organization.
  • Given the amount of information you will be expected to assimilate throughout the course, the basic knowledge acquired will allow you to move quickly to an advanced understanding of the occupational health and safety management system (OHSMS) and the complexities of the auditing process.

Course Instruction

  • There are 9 modules in this course. Please start with Module 1 and learn the information provided in each module in order.
  • For each module , there is a set of multiple-choice questions for self-verification of your understanding. Please answer all the questions and check your score. You are requested to proceed to the next module only after satisfactory completion of the preceding module.
  • Please obtain a copy of the OHSAS 18001:2007 standard, which must be read/referred to while progressing through the modules.

Course Objectives

At the end of this training session, participants will be able to understand:

  • What an OHSMS is and what its benefits are
  • Purpose and structure of the OHSAS 18001:2007 standard
  • The requirements of the OHSAS 18001:2007 standard
  • Hazard identification, risk assessment, and determination of controls
  • What an audit is and the benefits of an audit
  • How to plan, conduct, report, and follow up an audit

Important Notes:

1. Participants who register to take this course and pass the final examination with score of 70% or higher will be eligible to receive the APO certificate. Please note that the final examination can be taken only once, and therefore you decide when you choose to take it. Please note that the self-assessment quizzes are for your own evaluation and have no connection with the final examination.

2. Participants who perform well in this course and receive the APO certificate will also be given preference, on a merit basis, for selection to attend the follow-up face-to-face multicountry APO project, subject to nomination by their NPOs and availability of places.

3. Notes 1 and 2 are applicable only to participants from APO member countries. Participants from nonmember countries are welcome to take the course for self-improvement.
