The APO e-Course on Agritourism Business Development provides a comprehensive introduction to the fast-growing field of agritourism and its expanding role in sustainable rural development. Agritourism has emerged as a powerful tool for revitalizing rural areas by diversifying income sources, fostering community engagement, and preserving local culture and natural heritage.

This course equips participants with essential knowledge and practical tools to understand the fundamentals of agritourism, global tourism trends, and the economic, environmental, and social value created when agriculture and tourism are integrated into cohesive, visitor-centered experiences. Participants will gain insights into how agritourism contributes to stimulating local economies, strengthening rural livelihoods, and promoting environmentally conscious development.

Building on the APO’s long-standing initiatives in sustainable rural tourism, agribusiness innovation, and community-based development, this updated e-course reflects new realities shaped by global disruptions such as pandemics, rapid technological advances, shifting consumer expectations, and evolving sustainability requirements. The course introduces practical business development frameworks and real-world case studies while outlining the steps necessary to assess, plan, establish, and manage successful agritourism ventures. By exploring key success factors, from marketing and farm assessment to environmental protection and cultural preservation, participants will develop the competencies needed to design agritourism models that are economically viable, environmentally responsible, and aligned with the needs of rural communities.
