Over the past decade, advanced industrial companies have significantly enhanced productivity across manufacturing value chains. Disruptive technologies such as the Industrial (IIoT), AI, machine learning, advanced automation, robotics, and additive manufacturing are used to drive performance.

However, integrating these disruptive technologies requires a corresponding shift in management practices, which poses challenges for many organizations to adjust infrastructure to manage people, processes, and systems to support uninterrupted production. These technologies fundamentally alter operations and how companies approach business models and customer expectations, including demands for lower-cost services and mobile-friendly applications.

The APO has offered capacity-building initiatives in response to the challenges of disruptive technologies in recent years. This e-course is another effort to enhance the management of disruptive technologies in the manufacturing sector.

Course Objectives

The main objectives of this course are:

  • Learn about the utilization of disruptive technologies and their management in the manufacturing sector.
  • Understand the value, business models, and areas of disruptive technologies across different sectors and improve the performance and  productivity of manufacturing value chains through effective management in adopting disruptive technologies at the organizational level.

This e-learning course will cover the following modules:

Module 1: Overview of disruptive technologies in manufacturing
Module 2: Fundamentals of managing disruptive technologies
Module 3: Roles of people, processes, and systems in disruptive technologies
Module 4: Challenges of disruptive technology implementation
Module 5: Case studies of successful management of disruptive technologies at organizational level

Important Notes:

  1. Participants who register to take this course and pass the final examination with a score of 70% or higher will be eligible to receive the APO certificate. Please note that the final examination can be taken only once. Therefore, the most appropriate time to take the examination should be chosen carefully. The self-assessment quizzes are for personal evaluation only and are not related to the final examination results.
  2. Participants who perform well in this course and receive the APO certificate will be given preference, on a merit basis, for selection to attend follow-up face-to-face multicountry APO projects on similar topics, when nominated by their NPOs and if slots are available.
  3. Notes 1 and 2 are applicable only to participants from APO member countries. Participants from nonmember countries are welcome to take the course for self-improvement, although they will not have an opportunity to attend the follow-up face-to-face multicountry APO projects.
  4. Each module is in a prerecorded video format in which the expert delivers presentations by explaining each slide. Participants can access the video by clicking on the link provided under the title of each module.
