Recent IoT technologies enable more productive, efficient livestock management by collecting information and taking actions in a timely, precise manner for individual animals or flocks as needed. Precision livestock farming (PLF) is a key concept that allows farmers to significantly improve the way they care for and manage livestock through automated, continuous data collection and measurement with the use of cameras, microphones, and sensors. These innovations contribute to product safety, animal health and welfare, and environmental sustainability. This course will give an overview of the status of and challenges in livestock production, applications of PLF and other innovations, and good practices to improve livestock productivity sustainably in APO member countries. Concepts and principles of PLF, case studies of successful PLF implementation in poultry and other livestock, and how to apply PLF in the Asia-Pacific region will be presented.
